Is my face oily or dry? :S?

when I wake up my face is shiny (with oil I assume) so I wash it with a clean and clean cleanser which is oil free. After putting some oil-free Neutrogena moisturer on, I notice there are some dry patches. If I scratch them the skin like flakes off... ?

When I put foundation on it makes those %26quot;dry spots%26quot; obvious.

Btw I don%26#039;t have acne.
Is my face oily or dry? :S?
you have combination skin.
Is my face oily or dry? :S?
well doctors determine dont get mahjor with ur face. like dont put so much cream on or somthing. and dont over wash ur face. just wash it about twice daily; and dont put anything on until the dry skin fades.
Reply:i read that even though you may have oily skin, you should still use a moisturizer, it seems to make your skin lessoily. go figure...but I have done this for years.
Reply:Combination, I have the same skin, I only use lotion in the places where my face gets dry so the oily parts don%26#039;t get more oily. Those face blotter paper thingys help for the oily parts.
Reply:Sounds like your an oily skin type,... however, you%26#039;re drying out your skin too much.

%26quot;Oil-free%26quot; products aren%26#039;t neccessarily products that don%26#039;t contain oil. Most of them contain ingredients that dry out the skin,.. ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide (a popular drying agent used in skin care.)

If your cleanser contains benzoyl peroxide, toss it. It%26#039;s a pretty harsh ingredient to have in a cleanser.

What happens is that if you dry out your skin too much, your oil/sweat glands go into over-drive and produce even more oil to compensate the dryness,.. even if you have dry patches.

Avoid using too many products that say %26quot;oil-free%26quot; at once.

Like I said, discard your cleanser if it has benzoyl peroxide.

Try finding a cleanser that contains salicylic acid (an exfoliating agent used in skin care.) Salicylic acid will get down into your pores and push out the excess oils, bacteria, etc without drying out your face.

You can still have an oil-free moisturizer.

I would avoid using a cleanser that dries out the skin, although,... it%26#039;s tempting if you%26#039;re oily. I know. But a cleanser won%26#039;t make you less or more oily. Unfortunately.

You need to find other ways to reduce oil. Such as exfoliating. Having a good skin care routine. Using those little pad things to soak up the oil. Using a powder foundation that will also soak up the oil.

In the end, your oil protects your skin. You don%26#039;t want to completely strip your skin of it%26#039;s protective barrier and making it vulnerable bacteria, wrinkles, germs, etc.

Good luck.

Hope I helped. :)
